Goodie Witch: Spreading the magic of kindness
Halloween just got an upgrade! The idea behind this book is fantastic, it introduces a wonderful new Halloween activity that we can ALL try out with our kids… and who knows, one day it might become an annual Halloween tradition in all our homes!
Most kids on Halloween get WAY too much candy and other kids out there aren’t able to trick-or-treat at all. Goodie Witch, flies around the world on Halloween night with one mission: to collect excess candy from children who have gone trick-or-treating and redistribute it to those who, for various reasons, couldn’t participate in the festivities. These could be children who are ill, injured, or in places where Halloween isn’t celebrated. Children just need to leave some candy in a bag on their front porch and the Goodie Witch will swoop in and pick it up. She’ll leave a small gift in return for your generosity.

The rhyming structure of the book makes it a fun read-aloud. The emphasis on empathy and sharing is wonderful and the concept is super smart. The idea can easily be done in real life, which makes it much more exciting and engaging for the kids. It really increases the “mystery and magic” of Halloween and emphasizes generosity at the same time. It kind of reminds me of leaving cookies out for Santa or leaving your tooth under the pillow for the tooth fairy. These small things really add a magical element to childhood which is so important.

Halloween is coming soon and this is a fun new idea we should all try! I’m definitely going to try this out with my kids this Halloween. If you’re looking for Halloween books and you want to make your Halloween extra special, this book is definitely worth picking up!
