Title: Lillou the Petit Chef: and the kindness journey

Author: Laetitia Mariani

Lillou the Petit Chef

and the kindness journey

Lillou and her little brother Thomas are excited to play outside on a cold windy day. Even though mom warns them to bundle up, Thomas takes off his jacket while playing. A few days later, Thomas catches a cold … and soon, everyone besides Lillou gets sick. Wanting to help them feel better, Lillou decides to cook chicken soup for them.

As she delivers the soup, Lillou starts to think deeply about what kindness. She talks to people in her community, her dad, Mrs. Violet, and Mr. Charlie… who each give her different ideas about how far kindness can go. Lillou realizes that kindness is contagious too that it starts with small, caring actions.

Eventually, Lillou gets sick herself. But this time, something special happens: Her friend brings her chicken soup, using the recipe she shared. The kindness she gave to others came back to her, making her feel loved and cared for. Through this experience, Lillou learns that kindness can spread from one person to another, just like a cold.

This is a really great book, it has a lot of educational value. I like the association between catching a cold and spreading kindness. The illustrations are excellent, they have a very unique style. Was very excited to see some recipes in the book for chicken, vegetable soup and marble cake. For parents and teachers, this turns reading time into a learning opportunity that teaches hands-on life skills while making the book more impactful.

This book is part of the “Lillou - The Petit Chef” series by Laetitia Mariani. Loaded with great talking points and lots of educational “extras” like recipes, word reviews and writing exercises… it’s wonderful to see books like this. Definitely check out this whole series, these books are awesome!
